September 8th Congress returns to Washington to resume work on national healthcare reform. President Obama has encouraged Congress to pass
legislation rapidly.

At NM town hall meetings, our legislators demonstrated a profound ignorance of the facts, concentrating only on providing nationalized healthcare for all. To ensure your concerns to protect life, the elderly and families are considered contact our NM legislators listed below.

INFORM OUR LEGISLATORS OF THE FACTS:
  • Of the 46 million uninsured: 9.7 million are not US citizens, 17.6 million have incomes greater than $50,000, 14 million already qualify for Medicaid or other programs, less than 5 million are truly uncovered, outof a population of 307 million. This is a correctable problem. It does not require nationalized healthcare.
  • The House bill-HR 3200 will cost in excess of $1.4 TRILLION if passed. Off-balance sheet obligations associated with Social Security and Medicare are already $56 TRILLION!
  • The Congressional Budget Office estimates HR 3200 increases our deficit by $239 billion over the next decade. Net new spending increases 8% between 2019-2029, while new revenues grow only 5%. It is NOT deficit neutral and does NOT accrue savings as Ben Lujan claims.
  • Aside from planning to slash $500 billion from Medicare, no real cost control measures have been considered. Cost control should include tortreform to reduce malpractice liability and de-incentivizing employer-provided healthcare, which insulates consumers from the real cost of their healthcare and punishes those lacking employer-provided healthcare. (Safeway and Whole Foods provide impressive results, holding healthcare costs steady over many years by making employees accountable for healthcare decisions/costs.)
  • Pre-existing Conditions have successfully been accommodated by those states which implemented high-risk pools, which spread costs over all insurers, providing affordable insurance for all.
  • Less government control of healthcare will increase competition and reduce the cost of medical insurance by enabling consumers to purchase insurance across state lines, paying ONLY for coverage they require.

OTHER IMPORTANT CONCERNS:
  • All countries with socialized medicine ration healthcare by forcing citizens to wait for scarce treatments. In 2008, 400,000 people traveled to the US fortreatment.US 5 year all-type cancer survival rates beat those in Europe, the UK, Canada and Australia! Choice of providers insures this success.
  • HR 3200 would require public and private insurers to pay for all abortions.
  • HR 3200 requires those purchasing private insurance to buy through the public option.
  • Seniors will be required to participate in end-of-life planning as part of their healthcare coverage.
  • Individuals (2% of gross income) and companies (8%) will be penalized for not purchasing or providing insurance.
