KEDU Transmitter Damaged

UPDATE: 11-21-07, 12:32pm

Here is an update on KEDU - Christian Community Radio, 102.3 FM, "The Dove"

The main power supply for the transmitter was totally destroyed. We do not have an estimate on repair. That transmitter cost was $5000 when it was new.

In the meantime, KEDU is borrowing the transmitter that powered the 94.7 "translator" frequency for downtown Ruidoso. That transmitter is only providing 1/4 of the power that is needed for the station. Many area residents outside the Village limits will not be able to hear KEDU. We apologize for that inconvenience.

On Wednesday, KEDU ordered a new transmitter. The Broadcast Connection Company of Colorado agreed to ship us the transmitter at a 15% discount, and gave us 30 days to pay for it. We are praying that we can successfully raise the needed funds to cover the cost of the transmitter  and the engineering fees, estimated at just under $4,500.

If you would like to support our efforts, you can donate by going to the KEDU website:

WWW.KEDU.US, or use this link: http://www.kedu.us/donate1.htm.

If you have any question, please call us at 630-5000.

May God Bless You. Happy Thanksgiving

KEDU Transmitter Dead - Station Off Air
Apparent Power Surge Damages Transmitter

KEDU- Ruidoso, NM -  KEDU - Christian Community Radio 102.3 FM, which broadcasts on 102.3 & 94.7 FM, lost it's main transmitter early Monday morning. According to the station engineer, the station went off the air in the early morning hours on Monday, after an apparent power surge damaged the station's Pike's Peak Drive transmitter.

"The entire power supply inside the transmitter was damaged," said Harv Twite, Director of  Programming and Operations. "We came up and replaced the power supply fuses after the initial blow-out, but the transmitter only ran for another ten seconds and shut itself down. Our engineer, Ken Bass, made some emergency repairs at the site, but the power supply was fried. Our Internet broadcast continues online, but we are not on the air."

Twite said the station is rapidly weighing their options. He said the station's Board of Directors has been trying to replace the transmitter, but the station continues to work on a "shoestring" budget. Twite hopes to ship the transmitter to the manufacturer in Chicago today, but that doesn't get the station back on the air immediately. Repairs may take up to a week or more. Twite says the answer is to replace the transmitter quickly, and then repair the old one for a back-up. He said the station cannot afford to do it on it's own at this time.

In the meantime, if you would like to help the station raise the much needed funds for repair or replacement of their old transmitter, please call GM Pat Welch, at (575) 937-0282, or donate online, via credit card on the station's website, at www.kedu.us/support.htm
