ABOUT: LINCOLN COUNTY FOOD BANK

The Lincoln Food Bank provides a standard, healthy box of food to those who need it.
The folks at the Lincoln County Food Bank follow the guidelines and the experience of Food Banks throughout our nation. A family in need is presented with a big box, already made up by staff, containing the basic foods recommended by hunger relief organizations throughout the nation. Twenty-two items are in that box which weighs in excess of 40 pounds. Hot dogs, fresh milk and eggs are added by the Food Bank worker. Clients are invited to select from flour, sugar, lard, and desserts and an array of cans and boxes.

(Hours remain Noon to 4 PM; Mon-Fri - Phone (575) 378-8939 Call to verify all schedules and hours.

Note: WE ARE NOT THE SAME OLD FOOD BANK OF YEARS PAST!

The differences are many!

Firstly we publish this list saying loudly and clearly that these are the items we need the public to understand that we always need. Of course we use canned beans and everyone seems to think of those as a standard for us. When asked what we need I say PROTEIN! Discussion typically follows wherein I explain that we mean canned salmon or canned meat or canned tuna or peanut butter. Many nice folks respond with praise for how logically we are helping folks. Many buy some of these things and make sure that we get them.

As many readers of this report know the LCFB operated on a very small scale without published records and reports. For many years a few volunteers kept the doors open three afternoons weekly distributing small “tide over for a few days” quantities of food.

Although we  accept any contributions of food and money, we emphasize that this list shows what we always use and need.

Checks are always welcomed, too.

We are optimistic! Generous people answer all of our requests and, in time, perhaps more folks will think of our needs based on understanding more about what we do and need.

We invite everyone to come to see what we do at LCFB. Hours are M-F 12-4 PM or almost any time by appointment.

The telephone number is: (575) 378-8939.
